Teaching the teachers

Every Tuesday at 3, I teach English to the teachers at the big school.  It is somewhat frustrating because an hour a week is not enough to learn a language.  There are a few of them that are really pretty good at English and it’s because they have learned on their own over the years.  So, I try to pick topics that are interesting and I try to use activities that they could use in the classroom.  The teachers love competition and prizes of any sort are a hit. I don’t know how all of them teach, but in general in Thailand there is a lot of memorization and parroting and kids love games, songs and getting out of their seats so we do some of that.
The Thai teachers make great students.  They are always willing to try whatever I come up with and they laugh and talk to each other a lot during class.  I really enjoy them and the hour gives me a chance to interact with some that I don’t see often.
Every day in Thailand has a color associated with it.  Tuesday is pink, so everyone is wearing pink, except the director.  He was sick that day and just came to school for English class.
