Health Camp

Last Thursday Linda and I arrived in Lopburi for a Health camp for high school kids.  Several volunteers brought 3 or 4 students from their villages and another 5 volunteers put on the camp.  Linda and I went to share our stories of recovery from alcoholism in the unit on drugs and alcohol.  The other sessions dealt with gender identity, gender roles, and HIV and STDs.
The first day in our class, the students answered a variety of questions about drinking and using drugs, and a game of guessing some of the terms about consequences from drinking and drugging.  The second day 5 students had to carry 3 ladles of water from one container to another.  Each student was spun around several times, increasing from the first to the fifth student. The 5th was spun 20 times to demonstrate what it is like to try to function drunk.  Then Linda and I both spoke for about 10 minutes each about our alcoholism and Lek translated into Thai.  It was good education and the activities were fun and interactive.  People seemed to appreciate our willingness to be honest and we both developed a crush on Lek.

The seated student had to guess the word from clues his team gave
